About Shané Niole Darby
I am the mother of three beautiful girls. Proud of my roots, I decided to raise my family around the corner from where I grew up, in a city I believe in. Motherhood paired with my passions inspired me to establish Black Mothers in Power. Black Mothers in Power is a statewide, non-profit organization founded on empowering Black Mothers by building awareness, creating educational programming and lobbying for legislation addressing racial inequity for mothers in our community.
As an active member of the Army National Guard since 2012, I serve as a paralegal. I am also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and an adjunct teacher. These affiliations have provided me with the necessary network and professional skill set to affect legislative change in our community through grassroots initiatives. I am solution-oriented and results-driven and as your current City Council Representative, I will be the connector between ALL neighborhoods in the 2nd district.
Professionally, I witness the inequality our youth face on a daily basis. As a former Child Behavioral Therapist, I worked closely with children who have experienced trauma and/or have behavioral issues throughout the city of Wilmington. My experience provided insight in the lack of community resources and youth development, as well as supplanting my passion for reinvigorating youth projects; focused on supporting local community centers and extra-curricular activities that teach our kids the necessary skills to succeed in all walks of life.
Like so many of us, I feel the urgent need for housing reform, police accountability, and real protections for working-class and poor families in Wilmington. That’s why I’m stepping up - again -not just as a community organizer, but as someone ready to take our demands straight to the state level.
I’m running for Delaware State Representative - District 1 because Wilmington deserves a seat at the table. We deserve leaders who will fight boldly for our neighborhoods - not just talk about change, but make it happen.
As a City Councilwoman, I’ve worked to ensure access to affordable housing, real public safety solutions that don't harm our communities, and a city budget that reflects our needs. I’ve always stood with the people - and I won’t stop now.
This campaign is about more than politics. It’s about building power for Wilmington’s families. It’s about making sure our voices aren’t just heard, but respected and acted on.
Vote for Shane Nicole Darby on September 15, 2026.
Let’s take our seat at the table - together.
